If you’re interested in practicing the increasingly popular field of alternative medicine, the first step is to gain the necessary education. At the American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM), you’ll find academics that focus exclusively on Chinese medicine.

In particular, the academy offers the following programs: a certificate in Tuina Massage, and a master’s degree in Oriental Medicine. The Tuina Massage program is the shorter of the two, requiring three trimesters of full-time study. This course covers all aspects of medical Tuina, including its use in internal medicine, sports medicine and pediatrics.

The master’s degree is a 182-credit program that provides a comprehensive overview of Chinese medicine. In this program, you’ll learn about Tai Chi, Healing Qi Gong, Chinese Herbology, Acupuncture, and some elements of western medicine. Master’s students also take classes on Tuina massage.

Currently, state and federal loans are the only financial aid available at AAAOM. If you need additional tuition assistance, it’s recommended that you look for outside scholarships.

The minimum admissions requirements at AAAOM include a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least two years (60 credits) of baccalaureate study. The application includes a personal statement, official transcripts and letters of recommendation.
